They eat bad guys for breakfast, take out evil tyrants like they’re taking out the trash, and restore law and order before bedtime. Yes, while most of the cast of The Expendables trilogy have reached retirement age, they continue to fill the world with explosions, dubious puns, and serious scorch-marked attitude.
In The Expendables 3, Sylvester Stallone leads his all-star team against an enemy thought long dead. Action elders Wesley Snipes and Harrison Ford appear for the first time, adding their muscle to the biggest, baddest, least abandoned-building-friendly entry in the franchise. While the action is decidedly old-school, Sly employs true new blood with debuts from Ronda Rousey and Kellan Lutz.
To highlight the release of The Expendables 3, we’ve gathered some of the best these action heroes have to offer in our “Cast of the Expendables” Collection.
To see Sly throwing some slightly faster punches in his younger days, Rambo: First Blood is essential viewing. Driven by a smarter and more subtle script than it’s often given credit for, this film has influenced action movies in the decades since its release. Also included in the collection are the Rambo sequels in which our man travels to Afghanistan and Burma and racks up Guinness World Records for vengeance with violence.
Although no new stars have truly inherited the action thriller throne from Stallone and Schwarzenegger, The Expendables regular Jason Statham comes close. While his martial arts-influenced moves in War and Homefront are all action, Statham has acting chops, too. Included in this collection is Killer Elite, in which he goes toe-to-toe with Robert De Niro.
